Vintage Penguin Collection – celebrating the Anniversary Of Penguin paperbacks

On This day in 1935 the first Penguin paperback was published

From the Penguin history page Here

1935 – Allen Lane publishes the first Penguin books, realising his vision to make quality books available to all at low prices. The books cost sixpence and are colour-coded: orange for fiction, blue for biography and green for crime. The first batch includes books by Ernest Hemingway and Agatha Christie.

1936 – By March 1936 – ten months after the company’s launch on 30 July 1935 – one million Penguin books have been printed.

Now would be the perfect time to catalogue my own collection of vintage Penguin copies

I love vintage Penguin books and always look out for them. I collect Agatha Christie, Susan Hill and Gerald Durrell titles mainly but also nab any others I come across

Photographing them, I’ve found is an easier way to catalogue them all . So here is the list so far – if anyone can tell me how to get rid of the pink spots without tearing the delicate wrapper I’d be grateful
