Single-mother bounty hunter Lori Anderson returns in another nail-biting, high-voltage read. She’s as tough as they come, but when her family is threatened, she takes on a job that could change everything …
‘A real cracker’ Mark Billingham
‘My kind of book’ Lee Child
‘Like Midnight Run, but much darker … really, really good’ Ian Rankin
Single-mother bounty-hunter Lori Anderson finally has her family back together, but her new-found happiness is shattered when she’s snatched by the Miami Mob – and they want her dead. Rather than a bullet, they offer her a job: find the Mob’s ‘numbers man’ who’s in protective custody after being forced to turn federal witness against them. If Lori succeeds, they’ll wipe the slate clean and the price on her head – and those of her family – will be removed. If she fails, they die.
With North due in court in 48 hours, Lori sets off across Florida, racing against the clock to find him and save her family. Only in this race the prize is more deadly – and the secret she shares with JT more dangerous – than she ever could have imagined.
In this race only the winner gets out alive…
I’m so hooked on this series that I started reading this book the first day it arrived and didn’t hardly breathe until I put it down.
Action packed from the very start, Lori Anderson the bounty hunter, for whom life is never dull for long, is kidnapped, blindfolded, hog tied and thrown into the back of a van. She’s taken on a journey to Old Man Bonchese, the Miami mafia mob boss. Lori is given a nightmare mission and one that isn’t voluntarily accepted of finding the Miami Mob’s numbers man Carlton North. Her mission must succeed or her family will die Bonchese threatens her. North is currently in the protective custody of the FBI and holds a lot of secrets about the operations of the Miami mob. Of course they want him back. They can’t afford to have him singing like a bird on the witness stand for any indictments brought against them. Luciano though, the son of Bonchese and heir apparent of the lucrative empire doesn’t seem that keen though on having North returned. Lori notices a reluctance with him and he also instructs her to tell him first if she succeeds. He also gives her the chilling ‘or else’ message that if she fails he will kill her himself to avenge her killing of his friend and fellow mobster Tommy North. The man Lori shot in self defence and the action that put a price on her head and caused her to be on the hit list of Bonchese and the Miami Mob
What follows is an adrenaline rush read with Lori racing against time to save her family.
What I like about Lori is not only her intellect and tough resilience but also her refusal to be treated like a weak woman and one that can’t handle herself and get out of tough situations herself. She walks the walk and talks the talk and although she loves JT her partner and former mentor, she will work this all out, try to save her family and approach it on her own terms and don’t anyone underestimate her abilities. Lori is a smoking hot force to be reckoned with.
Addictive reading. Scary and tense throughout. I can visualise this being made into a Netflix series. If anyone hasn’t read the other books in the series (what’s wrong with them?) Deep Dirty Truth can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend that they don’t miss out and read the other books because they are awesome!
Deep Blue Trouble the previous book in this series was on my Outstanding Books Of The Year list for last year, this book will most definitely be on this year’s list.
