Really happy to be on the blog tour for this book that I enjoyed reading very much. Thanks to Katherine Sunderland and No Exit Press for my review copy.
I haven’t read anything by Leigh Russell before and I’ve no idea why. Perhaps because she’s such a prolific writer and there’s a whole series of books written by her and I can sometimes be incredibly lazy at starting a series from the beginning and catching up.
This book however is one I enjoyed very much and it’s number 11 in the series, so perhaps I can speculate that each one could be read as a stand alone.
The book went through from beginning to end without going back and forth between the past and present or having multiple narrators and then trying to remember who was who or what day it was! Just a steady enjoyable book written I thought in a very easy to read, almost conversational style, which I can’t imagine is as easy as it looks and must take an evolved level of writing skill to maintain and keep the interest of the reader. It held my interest throughout. The plot was good, the police procedural aspects of it were authentic and I really invested in and believed in the characters and the fact that the main character Geraldine Steel, once a Detective Inspector and now demoted to a lower rank was so passionate about her desire to serve justice and loved her job whatever rank she was. How rare is that in crime fiction?
Well plotted. Refreshing. Very enjoyable and I will certainly read more now from Leigh Russell.
