My Thoughts & Review
This is the second book in the Lori Anderson female bounty hunter series by Steph Broadribb and just as breathtakingly action packed as the first. The first book in the series Deep Down Dead Review here
was on my list of ‘Outstanding Books Of The Year 2017’ and this one will most definitely be on my list for this year.
With her lover/mentor and father of their child Dakota, JT behind bars accused of murder and facing a possible death row sentence, Lori is given an ultimatum that she can’t refuse by FBI agent Monroe. Monroe offers her a way to save JT and free him, if she uses her bounty hunting skills to bring in an escaped murderer Gibson, he will arrange for JT to be freed.
Facing a long sentence for a gruesome double murder, Gibson escaped while in hospital, killing guards along the way. Lori agrees to take on the job of tracking him down but makes sure that daughter Dakota is safely ensconced in a children’s summer camp being well taken care of.
Following Gibson in a trail that leads at first to California, someone is also following Lori and she has quite a few near misses when whoever it is catches up with her. She suspects mob involvement because of her shooting of her abusive husband, a mob enforcer, for which JT took the rap.
The tension is ramped up with the ever present danger and race against time. Not only does Lori want to save JT because he is innocent and she loves him, but her daughter Dakota’s cancer could return and she needs him as a possible donor to save Dakota’s life.
Lori is ordered by Monroe to team up with a local bounty hunting firm that means working with Dez McGregor who is a difficult distrustful man and makes her task even harder.
Faced with danger, Lori enlists the help of her friend and helped Red, a character that I hope we see more of in subsequent books in the series.
Once more author Steph Broadribb uses her experiences of working as a bounty hunter in the US to give the story its feeling of authenticity.
I read this book into the night, holding my breath, couldn’t stop reading, desperate to find out what happens and if Lori succeeds in her mission. Wow, what a read!
