Oh my goodness! Robert Bryndza does it again.
Once more we have a hold your breath rollercoaster of a read, of the type we’ve come to expect from author Robert.
Not for the faint hearted as there are some gory bits but they are a small part of this crime fiction novel. It is gritty, but not gratuitous.
Character led and held my interest throughout. Not once did my butterfly mind wander off thinking about another book I could be reading instead…
Young dark haired girls are being abducted and murdered and we find out early on who is responsible. The background details of the perpetrator’s life made me feel quite queasy at times. A thoroughly despicable character, which makes the reader all the more anxious that they meet a final and hopefully nasty comeuppance.
The murderer had planned each abduction very carefully and believes he is covering his tracks well, until along comes tough, feisty and tenacious DCI Erika Foster, who early on in the investigation promises one of the family members that she will catch whoever is responsible for the death of their loved one.
‘I do it to hold myself to account,’ said Erika. ‘And I’ve never broken a promise.’ Moss ‘But those promises have almost broken you…’
The book was compelling, absorbing and I just galloped through the last few chapters, desperate to find out the ending.
Thanks to the author and publisher for my ARC copy via NetGalley that I chose to review.
